In Turkish, we call those blue things “Nazar Boncuğu” which means “Bead of Evil Eye (direct translation)” – amulet. There is a common belief that the bead protects you from bad things. You can put the big ones to your house or to you work place and keep the small ones on yourself.

Thanks for the insight! I have a silver ring with the bead of evil eye dangling from it in blue and white crystals, that my Turkish husband gave me 🙂
